The Basics of Tracking With Google Analytics
Every business should use Google Analytics to track the internet marketing efforts, no matter how big or small the company is. Not only do you get to see how many hits you get to your website, but you can learn about the demographics of the visitors and what they’re actually doing on your website. You can see which pages they visited, where they live, where they came from before coming to your website, what electronic devices they used, and how many of them were converted into real customers. This is a great way to understand how successful you’ve been with your advertising campaigns. Then, based on the analytical results, you can adjust them accordingly.
It is very easy to install Google Analytics onto your website. After you’ve signed up for Google Analytics and then created a campaign for your website, you will be given a tracking code that you’re supposed to copy and paste into the HTML head tag area of your home page. You can also put the tracking code on every page of your website that you want to track as well. If you’re using a blogging platform like WordPress, there are plugins to simplify the installation process if you’re too scared to mess with the HTML coding on your own.
After you’ve installed the Google Analytics coding onto your website, the next step is to create goals within your Analytics account. If you go to the Admin section, you will see an area called “Goals.” This lets you add new goals that you want to achieve with your website, like getting a certain number of people to complete a form. Once you reach this number, it will let you know that the goal has been met.
Another helpful Google Analytics tool is the Site Search feature. If you’ve got search boxes on your website which visitors can use to search certain keywords or phrases, Site Search will track the keywords that people are searching the most on your website. Based on these results, you can then add new content or pages which caters to the topic of these keywords. Then, you can make your visitors happy by supplying them with content that they’re obviously interested in.
Google Analytics is a completely free tool that any webmaster can use. By analysing the performance of your website, you will make better investment choices for your marketing so you can bring in more visitors and supply them with content that they’ll want to see.
